Alessandro Scandroglio
Alessandro Scandroglio was born on 27th April, 1979 in Castellanza, Italy. From 1987 to 2000, he studied the violin, starting at the secondary school "Luigi Majno" in a class with a musical curriculum taught by professor Simona Gilardi, and then at the "Istituto Musicale Pareggiato G.Puccini" in Gallarate, studying with M° Ruggero Marchesi. In the last years of the conservatory, he started playing the viola, as well as the violin, as his main instrument. Meanwhile, he obtained his diploma at the School of Arts in Varese, where he first became interested in wood carving.
From 1997 to 2000, he studied violin making at the "Scuola Internazionale di Liuteria" in Parma with M° Renato Scrollavezza and M° Marco Imer Piccinotti for the varnishing.
In 2000, after obtaining the diploma, he became an independent violin maker and opened his own laboratory in Casorate Sempione. In the same year, he started his apprenticeship, which later became an active collaboration, with professor Piccinotti, who provided important guidance on his training.
Under professor Piccinotti's guidance and aided by his own musical background, Alessandro Scandroglio started to search for his own style and the ideal sound. Thanks to the refined building technique he has learnt, he is now able to reach the desired sonorous result and also exalt the acoustic qualities of the wood he uses. Later in 2006, he won three prizes at the international competition of Poznan, Poland.
In 2010, he started making also guitars and recording for many important and famous musicians.
In the same year, he won the first prize at the international competition of Como proposed by the Conservatory of the city with the aim to buy a string quartet.
His instruments are appreciated by musicians all over the world and also soloists from important Italian orchestras such as the one of “Arena di Verona” and the one of “Il Maggio Musicale Fiorentino” in Florence.
